Henley & Villawood Properties Charity Home Auction

Celebrating 25 years of supporting the Good Friday Appeal

The Henley and Villawood Properties Charity Home Auction is one of Melbourne’s most loved auction events, and one of the biggest contributors to The Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal each year.

2018 will be a very special year for the annual charity home that is built, auctioned and proceeds donated to The Appeal. It will be Henley’s 25th year of building and donating houses to the Good Friday Appeal and the 9th year that Villawood has generously donated land.

The sale of the 2017 GFA house brings the project's total donations to over $13.8 million from the sale of 38 houses.

The first home

When Henley was first founded, we didn’t have the means to make a huge difference but we knew we wanted to initiate a way to contribute back to our community.

The Royal Children’s Hospital became an obvious choice to us, given so many of our team, trades and suppliers have benefited from the hospital’s hard work, or know someone who has.

Henley initially forecasted some aspirational goals of donating between $10,000 and $30,000, but the management team wanted to explore the possibility of donating something much bigger.

We hoped that if we could source donated land, we could lean on our trade and supplier network to build and donate a complete house and land package – raising hundreds of thousands of dollars, not just tens of thousands.

In 1993, the first home located in Timbarra Estate, Berwick went for $136,500, smashing the initial goal of a $10,000 contribution.

Our generous suppliers and trades

It wouldn’t be possible without our trades and suppliers – and each year, we welcome more partners on board because it is such a worthwhile and valuable cause. This year we had over 400 tradies and suppliers donate their time and materials to make the home a reality.

Every year we have an overwhelming amount staff wanting to volunteer at the auction event or in the lead up to the event. Our staff are very proud to work for a company that gives so much back to the community and we’re so proud of their energy and enthusiasm bringing it together each year.

Our committment to The Good Friday Appeal

The Royal Children's Hospital has been providing outstanding care for Victorian children and their families for over 140 years.

Recognised internationally as a leading centre for research and education, The Royal Children's Hospital is the specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria providing care which extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

The Good Friday Appeal is one of Victoria's most widely recognised charity initiatives and represents the hospital's biggest singular fundraising drive each year.

This year, The Good Friday Appeal will celebrate its 85th year of contributing to The Royal Children's Hospital. Thanks to the kind generosity and co-operation of thousands of individuals and companies across Victoria, The Good Friday Appeal has contributed more than $291 million to The Royal Children's Hospital since its inception in 1931. These funds have been used to purchase essential medical equipment, fund vital research projects and provide much sought after scholarships for staff to further their knowledge and experience.

One of the biggest contributions to the Good Friday Appeal is the annual charity auction proudly supported by Henley and Villawood Properties.
